How to write about data questions

A reader who wants to question a figure, ask for a correction, or understand how this desk handles data should write to the editor. This page explains what the site collects, what it does not collect, and what happens when a reader follows a link to a broker.

What this site collects, and what it does not

This site collects nothing of its own. It has no accounts, no login, no newsletter, and no comment form. It does not set a cookie of its own, does not run analytics, and stores nothing in the reader's browser. A reader can open every page, read every table, and leave without the site knowing a name, an address, or a reading history.

The only records that exist are the technical request logs kept by the hosting provider, as any web host keeps. Those logs record that a device requested a page at a certain time, but this desk does not read a reader's personal data out of them. The page a reader sees is the page that was requested; nothing else is attached to the visit.

Technical logs stay with the host

The pages are served by a hosting provider which, like any web host, keeps its own technical request logs. Those logs exist so that the site can stay online, not so that the publisher can build a profile of a reader. They contain the kind of information any server records: an IP address, a time, a requested file.

This desk does not use those logs to identify a reader, to follow a reader across the web, or to sell a reader's data. The logs are the provider's, not the publisher's, and they are not mined for anything beyond keeping the site available and secure. A reader who wants to know more about those logs should ask the hosting provider, not this desk.

Affiliate link and broker relationship

The site links to one broker, FxPro, through an affiliate link. If a reader opens an account there, this desk is paid a commission. The reader pays nothing to this site and nothing extra at the broker. That relationship is stated plainly here and on the page about terms, so a reader deciding whether to trust the site's figures can see exactly how the desk earns.

Following that link leaves this site. The broker's own site is operated by someone else, under its own terms and its own privacy policy. What a reader does there is between the reader and the broker, not between the reader and this desk. The broker's pages are not this desk's pages, and its data practices are not this desk's practices.

Reaching the editor

Writing to the address on the contact page reaches the editor. Corrections are the reason the address exists: a figure that is wrong is corrected and the correction is dated. A reader who believes a published rate is wrong, or who wants to ask how a figure was sourced, should write to editor@goldpricefxin.com.

This desk can act on a factual error: a wrong number, a wrong date, a wrong source. It cannot answer a question about what a reader should buy, and it will not give investment advice. The figures describe what things cost, not what a reader should do. A data question is a question about a figure; an advice question is a question this desk cannot take.
